The engagement ring I gave Smiling Face is a True Lover's Knot tied in gold wire.
My wedding ring is a Carrick Bend.
    Now she has a diamond!

    TeeDee,

Why wouldn't the scarab work instead of the single pass lock (single Marlin splice)?

I think that would be fine. Personally... I wouldn't trust my backside with it. (but I have a very large backside also)

My concern I would have would be losing the soloman bar.

Tough to lose it... the ends are melted into the end knot.

I mean as far as it sliding off the end of the loop.

Of course! I didn't think of that.

I never would do something like that...

Still, the bend at the end would tend to resist a little more than the bight.

    mac,
i tie mine similar but use whipping.it sometimes pulls off.i have never tied a soloman bar knot so do not now if this woulld work.to keep it from sliding off could you start tieing the soloman on the knot side of the nacrabiner working toward the loop.when you come to tie the last go around of the soloman bar could you go through the nacra(between the two cords) instead of around them? it would not be able to slide off then.
