Simplest things are always in fron of us.

Make spliced adjustable loop, tie standing end of with stopper knot (in this case I have actually used the original stopper knot, very decorative.) On working end tie of with another stopper knot (sink stopper this time, nice big knot for toggles). poke working end through adjustable loop to close.

Thanks to Nacra for starting this wonderful thread!!! It has really got me thinking.

The example here is tied in some old 3mm guyline I had knocking about, should work fine in amsteel though.

Now all I need to do is find some Hollow braid Dyneema in the UK, everything seems to be over a core here!!

The Diamond knot is a different knot over here used by the British ...

We've heard of such things over here: Ashley's Ch. 6.

However, loop shackles require a two strand stopper, so we turn to Ch. 8.

My comment was more for us over the pond, it just helps illustrate some differences in terminology for my british companions.

Not trying to patronize in anyway, shape or form, but I have found that sometimes the startingly obvious is missed, but most single strand stoppers can be tied using a doubled cord (think figure 8 on the bight, or a double overhand on the bight) opens up a few options if you like decorative knots, as generally most look better doubled.

BTW, amsteel loop shackles are one of the few practical uses of a decorative knot, where most other knots won't work. I find that fascinating!

Didn't think it was a silly response, perhaps I was silly in my typical too 'british' answer!!

Have to agree with you about the decorative knot thing though. Going back a few points to the Diamond (lanyard) knot, I think it is a great knot, but think for some beginners to rope work there are some rather simple and still decorative knots that work as effective stoppers. I am a firm advocate of the Sink Stopper, think you guys call it an ashleys stopper, however if care is taken to ensure a wrap around the standing part before tightening you get a pretty nice looking stopper, doubled it is both chunky and eye pleasing

The Solomon bar is also called the Cobra stitch I think, I make lanyards using it and attach them to all sorts of things (see pic of pocket knife) so that I always have some cord about me in case of emergancies. I once made a belt using it by going over the top of the solomon with another solomon and then back over again (king cobra stitch and super cobra stitch). Made a really good belt and meant that I always had 50' of paracord on me. Shame I left it in a hotel when away on business, Perhaps I should make another....

Yes that is another name.

what does everyone think.it looks like the harder its pulled the harder it holds.but maybe the knot would be pulled back through the two cords?
maybe just stop messin with something that works good allready?
they are easy to do try one and see.

I like it! Here's a variation on it with shock cord. I use it to secure part of my bug net or top cover.
