Teedee sent me a Text descriping his tarp ridgeline setup using no hardware and nacra iners. Sounds really cool, but hard to visualize. He always was a step of everybody else in regards to ridgelnes, look forward to seeing pics of it sometime.

The diamond/lanyard/bosun's whistle knot is a thing of beauty. It's not as hard as it looks and end result is worth the effort. Give it a try even if your not a knot person. Overhand knot is for landlubbers...oh wait...that's what we are. Never the less, try the diamond knot.

Do you have any idea how many times I watched that video while sitting in front of my PC trying to tie that Lanyard knot ??? No.. it was more like 10X.

Have mercy man... I'm an X-Coastie and I can't resist knots of all different types and styles. I might be a landlubber now, but at one time I was a ol' salty-dog.

The vid was a bit confusing on the placement of his fingers but once I got it, it sure was sweet. Keep em' comin'.

Knotty is correct... this is one of the prettiest knots known. It's basically a rolled Carrick Bend, which is a thing of beauty by itself. My wedding ring is a Carrick Bend.

When I tie a Lanyard Knot, I like to do it in two steps.

First step is to tie a flat Carrick Bend, which is easier than that video in the thread above, in my humble opinion. It's sort of an artistic sheet bend. At that point, I take up a lot of the slack, and make the flat Carrick Bend small.

Second step is to pass each end around the flat Carrick Bend and up through the middle. Now you can roll it into a crown and tighten it up.

When you tie the knot this way, it is easier to place it where you want it. With a loop shackle, you want it near the bitter ends.

Great stuff Mac! Now more people will know how to tie this beautiful knot and when using them for Nacrabiners they'll be safer. Earlier in the message thread, post #71 http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...4&postcount=71, Scneiderlein wrote how using other stopper knots reduced the fail strength from 2800# to 600-700#.

Thanks for the clarification.
Once it was described as a carrick bend, with a second step with the tails, It came back to me from my Scouting days, Woodbadge neckerchief slide.

Watching the video made it very clear.
I did 10 Nacrabiners with backspliced ends and Diamond stopper knots in about 3 hours in 3 different size cords.
