I tried my hand at making some nacrabiners today after reading through this thread and found a video that explains the diamond knot pretty clearly.

    Thanks.

That is the best example I've seen. Easier to remember the steps and avoid mistakes.

I use a homemade version of these on sailboats using 1/8 spectra or vectran to replace a clevis or shackle. Spectra handles the chafe a little better than vectran, but I have a lot of 1/8" vectran on hand. Probably some good applications for ultralight folks or hammocks.

These could be used in suspension systems in place of biners, marlin spike hitches and other areas where two lines or eyes needs to be joined quickly.

These work by allowing one side of the loop to adjust opening the eye and when tension is applied the eye closes and secures the knot end. Very easy to make if you have any skills at all splicing 12 strand.

Any strong stopper knot will work on the end, I use a special knot (it's probably a lanyard knot) so that I can cut the tails very short, but it is complex knot to tie while balancing the lengths of the two "legs". A good stopper knot with a little extra tail is much simpler.

They are very strong, the applications are for racing sailboats, where weight and strength are at a premium.

I believe APS sells these as well as the Tylaska Spool Shackle, which is another great way to form a cow hitch when you don't have access to the end of the line.

Lol from the way you talk about splicing 12 strand it makes me feel like im back on the boat. Thanks for the help "Boats"

Here is a larger version I haven't seen before! Leave it to us hammock people and sailors to bring cool things to the market.

I have been watching this thread for a long time now, and this is the first commercial version I have seen, I was looking through a new Cabelas book and saw that and immediately said there is a Nacrabiner, ha!

It was just a matter of time before commercial versions of the Edwards (Improved) Soft Shackle was on the market. It really is the best way to make a connection.

I have been using his shackle for everything that would have required a carabiner or rings on my hammock system.
It is much easier to work with than the traditional soft shackle.

By the way, they have listed his improved shackle in the Grog Knot web page, but not the Android app yet.
He deserves a lot of credit for his research on the subject.

After reading through the thread & spending far more time googling than I should admit to. I found a couple examples of "integrated soft shackles", but none with a good how to. Was wondering if any on here have experimented with them. & if so, which method preserves the greatest amount of strength.

    Cool.

I made some nacrabiners to swap out the carabiners in my whoopie suspension. They work great in that role but I'm a bit paranoid about misplacing one so really like the idea of integrating one on a whoopie sling in place of the closed loop.
