    DIY UQ protector

So what makes a UQ protector good? Especially in terms of warmth (that extra 5 degrees, or whatever barely significant temp change). I would imagine some combo of the following:

    Light weight
    Water repellent
    Breathable
Distance between hammock and UQ protector
    Wind resistant

What has been your favorite UQ protector, and what made it good?

I love my one from 2QZQ....it is light, breathable, cuts the wind, water repellent, I keep just a little space between UQ and protector to hold some warm air (in theory)
When I need it, I need it. Don't always use it. Mainly for keeping wind off the UQ.

Why are they both so heavy? I would imagine that either UL argon or pertex quantum gl could provide the same warmth without the weight.

Edit: I know driducks doubles as a poncho, but isn't some redundancy good?

part of why they're heavy, they need to be breathable, and also wind proof. Sometimes waterproof.... BUT.....once you get to a point, you might find that as heavy as they are, winter socks might actually be lighter than tarp, underquilt protector, and bug net all in one....

I am going to be experimenting with the idea of a sort of hybrid tarp/underquilt protector similar to my duck hunter camo shelter, but with bug net on the ends rather than sealing it all up.
