Check out the threads on the walmart Ozark trail down sleeping bag. Easily converted to an underquilt and inexpensive.
Had mine to 33 degrees comfortably.
I'll be doing my first hang this weekend in Illinois and i'm bringing my self inflating pad for between the two layers of my new WL Night Owl. I'm also going to rig up an old sleeping bag with paracord tied onto the corners and suspend that underneath me. I'm also bringing an old military surplus wool blanket and a few other heavy fleeces just in case, as well as my 20 degree sleeping bag. The low of 28 degrees has me a little concerned but it will be a excellent learning experience. I'm jumping right in to this "trial by fire".

I do have a old army surplus one from when I first started getting serious about camping, like this:

I will bring it with and try it as well. This being my very first hang i'm bringing all my available options. I will be attempting a DIY under quilt soon. Thanks for the tip!
Reflectix. 15.00 at home depot for 3 pads worth. Almost double r value of average ccf.
I would suggest pad and sleeping bag. That is what I used for a year....happily too.
