AR>Storm Racing On Ouachita Trail Section 3(w/video)

Hiking dog and I got another hike in on section 3 of the Ouachita Trail. We started at the Hwy 71 trailhead headed west toward Eagle Gap. We didn't get as far as I wanted due to the poor trail conditions and the fact we were trying to beat the storm off the mountain. The first 2 miles were in pretty great shape(someone had been out with a chainsaw) and we averaged 3 mph in that section but the last mile took us twice the time due all of the ice storm damage that hasn't been worked on at all. We are talking about multiple trees all down in bunches in the trail(some shown in the video). If we weren't trying to not be on top of the mountain with lightning coming in we'd pushed on but went safe and turned around near the 3 mile mark.

Thanks for the Vid Oracle. Looks like that trail took a beating from all of that ice. I'm up in New England and we're going to have to do a fair amount of cleanup here this Spring, as we had a pretty snow and ice filled winter.

Despite the rain and tough trails, Hiking Dog (Molly) looked pretty happy to be out there with you. My Golden Retriever Charlie has a similar pack and he starts salivating when I pull it off the hook where I store it because he knows we're heading to the woods.
