Question Waiting For My ThunderBird to get built questions?

    Evening All,

I am another of the "proud to be waiting" for my own Thunderbird hammock folks . While I was waiting, I wanted to ask a few questions:

What is the best length and diameter of shock cords to use for the Thunderbird tieouts / tie outs?

How well does the Superfly tarp work with the Thunderbird hammock?

Are there any "EXTRAS" I should buy (other than the tie out stakes, cordage, etc.) in advance of the Thunderbird hammock's arrival?

    All suggestions/responses are greatly appreciated!

I think the TB is "top of the range" and it comes with all the extras including tie out shock cords.
At the end it's a normal (very well designed) hammock so you need your quilts and a tarp like with any other. The only thing I would consider is the ridge line lenght. If your TB is 10' then the ridgeline will be 100'', if it's 11' the the ridge line will be 110''.
I believe the superfy have 11' ridgeline which should be plenty for 10 footer and just right for 11 foot hammock.

I have a Superfly. It's got a 11' length, so 132" coverage. The ridge line on a 11' hammock is 110" to make the sag, so you'll hvae about 11" of overhang on your tarp if you go with a 11' tarp like the Superfly.

as mentioned the hammock comes with the necessary tie outs, but you'll need to get stakes. wally world has some aluminum Y stakes for $3 for 4, but don't pound on them with a rock in root filled or rocky soil or they will bend. MSR groundhogs are another Y stake, but made of better aluminum. they are $20 for 8 I think. You'll need stakes for your tarp, so you'll easily use 6-8 stakes between your hammock and tarp. An upgrade for the MSR stakes would be to go Titanium. I'd only do that if you're a UL backpacker as they are $$$
