OH > Archers Fork Loop 3/28-29

You can go read the thread planning this trip if you like.

I've written up a trip report for our Overnight trip to Archers Fork Loop. It's a pretty long read and I haven't uploaded any photos yet. As an added bonus, I got my son, Justin, to write up his version of events this weekend. That's worth checking out if you want to delve into the mind of a 13 year old.

A big thanks for Lance and Jason! I really enjoyed hanging out with you guys even though the trip was tough. I'd gladly do it again!

I find each of our reactions to the weather rather funny:
Lance- Positive in the face of a challenge. Levelheaded when realizes that things are going to h*!! and it's time to bail.

Doug- Great attitude on the surface to hide concern and discomfort for son's. (Thats a good Dad there)

Justin- The power of youth. Optimistic even when he new it needed/wanted it to end.

Me- I was good until I wasn't and then I was done. Frustration and anger at the situation took hold. All I could do was use the anger to push till the end.

Great trip reports and great hiking with you all. we will definitely do it again...in better weather? I think it took my hands about an hour before the feeling came back, and to be honest, I just knew we had to keep moving to keep the body heat going, we were definitely cutting it close by the end, no doubt about that. I knew from speaking to Justin (he was up front with me most of the afternoon) that he wanted to be at the cars and on his way home, I also know from having teenage boys that keeping them happy keeps them loving the adventures and wanting to return for more. I gotta say, Justin was an absolute trooper, even a beast for his age, 13 and he led the pack the whole day, very impressive. I look forward to another adventure, we always learn so much from each trip, especially about ourselves.

I enjoyed the photos & the trip write-ups. Justin's cracked me up - active imagination
But then again if your son said to you I'm going to met up with a bunch of people from the internet for an overnighter, you'd probably have an active imagination as well.

It sounds like a good call to leave early.
Do you think where you were camping would have gotten the snow as well?

Twice now we've had camping trips with people we don't know that I've "met" here on HF. Both times have worked out great. Justin is naturally good with new people and handles it well. I'm 100% sure the fears about Jason were fabricated for effect in his story. 😃

The weather forecast for Saturday night at the location of our camp varied wildly. I have no doubt it continued to precipitate all or most of the night. It very well could have snowed.
