    Warbonnet Blackbird or JRB hammock

    Hey there,

Looking to buy a hammock. Have it narrowed down to a warbonnet blackbird or a jack r better bear mountain bridge hammock. Any advice? I am 6 feet 195 lbs.
    Thx

I have access to both and if I didn't have fairly broad shoulders it would be a difficult call; they both have well deserved reputations. But, I don't fit so great in the Bridge so I gotta say Blackbird. If you ask the 19 year old that lives with us, he'd say Bridge.

    Not much help, sorry.

Wide shoulders, or narrow? Bug netting critical, or not so much? Like pads?

If you have wide shoulders, and you need a seamless bugnet, go with the blackbird. If you are thinner, bugnetting can be a little more forgiving, and you like sleeping on a pad or don't have the budget for an underquilt at this time, go with the bridge. I have both - kind of like them both.

Scallops and capers. Can't go wrong with scallops. Unless you're allergic.

There ya have it. I have both and have not yet decided between the two. For quite a while I was favoring the bridge, but it is closer to a tie now, though there are very distinct difs and pros and cons between the two. It just comes down to personal pref as well as shoulder size.

For any really big folks, it probably needs to be the BB, both for shoulder room and weight considerations. Though I am 6'1" and 210 lb and a size 45 coat, and I have plenty of room, though I didn't think so at first. But, I think the BMBH has an upper limit of 225 lbs or so? Not sure.

Many ( including me) have been able to keep warm in severe cold and different types of hammocks, with pads or Super Shelters or UQs or Pea Pods or some combo of same. But the ease of doing so in a BMBH with the JRB Mt. Washington UQ is exceptional, IMO. It fits so perfectly, so that there is virtually nothing to adjust, and it's close to impossible to get it adjusted too tight thus compressing loft. And the warmth remains total from well below your feet, well above your head and anywhere to the side. So no matter how you turn or position an arm or leg, you are covered. At least that's how it worked for me. Then, if needed, the BMBH is the best I have found to use with a pad, so if in the unlikely event you needed even more bottom warmth than the MWUQ provided, it is super easy to boost with a pad, and pretty comfortable to. A pad in some single layer hammocks can really suck. A pad works pretty good in the BB also, but it's best in the BMBH.

Either one is great, but quite different. So, there you go, no help at all! :
