Montgomery Bell and Long Hunter State Parks are the 2 parks that are closest to Nashville

If you don't mind a little bit of a drive, virgin falls is awesome. Its got caves and waterfalls. There is a place where you can hang up at the top of a water fall close to the mouth of a cave. It gives you nice cool air in the summer. It is in sparta, probably 1.5hr from Nashville. Bear Island on Percy Priest is fun. There is a group hang there in a few weekends. Big South Fork and Picket are nice for a weekend, they require a little more driving.

+1 on Virgin Falls. That is a beautiful hike and place to hang. There are a lot of good places within 1-2 hour drive. Virgin Falls, Savage Gulf, Walls of Jericho(Tims Ford State Park). I haven't been to the South Fork but hear its great too.

I'll agree on Long Hunter, Montgomery Bell, Savage Gulf, Fiery Gizzard, Big South Fork, Cumberland Trail, Walls of Jericho, Mousetail Landing, Frozen Head, and there are others. Neo and I just hung on Bear Island on Thursday night. Like Long Hunter, that's extremely close, but for BI you need a boat/kayak.

Folks often mention Virgin Falls, but understand that's only one hike among several at the Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial Wilderness, just as Stone Door (mentioned a lot) is only one hike among several at Savage Gulf.

I didn't see that, but it does say there is no camping above Virgin Falls, but one trip there and you find out the campsite at the top of the falls is the first one to get taken. Also, i'm not sure how they would enforce the rules, as this isn't a state park with rangers. Not saying we should break the rules, just curious how they enforce them anyway.
