Hello,
I am brand new to hammocks. This came as a suggestion from my soon to be 10 year old son. He wanted a hammock for the backyard. Sounded like a wonderful idea so I started searching the net to see what I could learn. We are very interested in DIY. Hubby is a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade and I do some sewing when time allows. We are heavily involved in Scouts, currently at the Cub Scout level (elementary grades), but we will be advancing to Boy Scouts as our son ages.
So, I purchased a used hammock from Craigslist. Sounded like a great plan. It is a free standing metal frame with a hammock made out of a sturdy outdoor type material. I need to take a photo of it to be able to post it. It turns out to not be so comfortable. I think it is just too tightly hung, but I am not sure. I will be searching on this forum to see if we can make adjustments to it to make it more comfortable. It is one of those that flips you out if you are not careful.
I am also very interested in doing some DIY projects and getting some hammocks in the back yard. I have yet to decide if I want them to be a permanent fixture or something mobile. Space it not an issue and I love the multiple hammock set ups (3 hammocks or more). I would love for this to turn in to something our Scouts can use too. Our place is the Saturday night backyard campfire headquarters, so I'm sure the kids would enjoy hanging out in the hammocks. (that was an unintentional pun)
So, suggestions are welcome. What options would you choose if space was not an issue, mobile or permanent structure?
