~ROAD TRIP~ Hanging the US West

Working with the school system gives me a few months to play around and Sleep in
Now that Ive done that its Time to get away from the house.
The best times Ive had was getting on my harley and just heading off Points Unknown.
Well the bike was sold do to the wonder lust the above stated ( I have a habit of wondering off ) and thats not good raising a little girl alone.

But we are going to pack up the car and wander for a few days. The only point we are aiming for is AZ.
Gonna stop by the Grand Canyon for a look see.

With our BlackBirds to sleep in and save us a small amount of Gas $ we will head west and see what we see.

Ill post a report ( Pawfoot edited ) and photos when we get back.
as it looks we will be taking off June 22.

Sounds like fun, wish we could take a trip like that. Some day. If you find yourselves well north of AZ give a shout, cold beer in the fridge for weary travelers. Have a great trip.

On your way to the GC ( south rim?), you most likely will go through Flagstaff. Contact a ranger station or locals for directions to either Locket (sp?) Meadow on the east side of the San Francisco Peaks ( Mt.Humphries or Kachina Peaks Wilderness), or Hart Prairie/Kendrick Peak area on the west side of the peaks. ( have adequate water with you at these two places) In either case, hang in the cool temps and Aspens in spectacular high country(ENVY!). Get a Coconino National Forest map to help out. Ask to make sure these roads are passable to a car if you don't have a high clearance vehicle. If they are not, some one should be able to direct to a forest area that is more accessible. If you don't think you will be there during office hours, you could contact them in advance:
    Coconino National Forest
    1824 S. Thompson St.
    Flagstaff, AZ 86001
    928-527-3600

If you are heading north first to the north rim of the Grand Canyon, you can just hang in the magnificent forest up there. Much more forest on the North Rim than the south. North or south, just be sure to be prepared for cool to cold temps. But especially on the North Rim area, which is at 9000 feet elevation in places, 8000 in most many places.

    Have fun!
    Bill

Plan to camp near water each night..... There you will normally find trees..... Worked for me and a motor cycling buddy in 2007 when we did 10,000 mile road trip thru the Greast SW.... Enjoy the trip!

SWW, you and Pawfoot have a safe trip. Bring lots of pics to Hot Springs in September.
