Sleeping bag wrap warmth

Does anyone have any suggestions on improving the warmth of a sleeping bag wrapped around the hammock? I imagine making it tighter would help, but I don't know how I would do that without constricting the hammock too much.

I've used a Mummy bag for tighter and warmer fit - but you sacrifice movement ad restrict your laying angle when you use a tighter 'pod'.

Yea your better of using a mummy type bag. You would have to do some modifications on that one to get it to work

I use my poncho liner underquilt to hold up my vintage down bag/peapod


You can also wrap your jacket around the foot end for a little extra.

Agree, you might be better with some taper or narrowing down towards the ends. The commercial version Pea Pod is very wide in the middle ( about 6 ft) and much more narrow on the ends, with a nylon draw string inside a channel on each end that attaches to the hammock end knots and is used to tighten up the pod just enough so that the bottom layer just contacts your back, with any excess in the top layer dropping down in contact, or close to contact, with the front of the body.

Right. Or, you can put an UQ or other insulation inside the bottom and/or top of the pod, filling any gap and sealing off drafts around the neck/shoulders, hugely boosting insulation. Shug uses a 20F bag with added UQ to go way below zero.

In the meantime, you can probably make what you have work. You may just need to do some mods, like an added draw cord in a channel on the ends. I don't know what the bags rating is or what temps you are shooting for, or it's width(wider is better for diagonal lay), but by adding clothing as needed to fill any gaps, and maybe some minor mods, you can probably get down quite cold. Or, with some mods some folks convert bags to UQs.
