I looked at those as well early on but was given good advice here to look for middle aged all mechanical machines. I'm glad I listened. Found some great ones that just needed some oil and a belt or bobbin tire to make them like new. I have to say the ones I like operating the best have the bobbin on the side as these seem to run the smoothest. Unless you go to a commercial walking foot machine like the sailrite, most all of the machines start releasing thread tension at about 1/4-3/8" of material thickness. This is typical of any machine using the standard needle.
I've not had any problems sewing webbing with any of my vintage machines. I sewed up some webbing last night with a $15.00 machine I found at Value Village. As thumbs mentioned, sometimes all you need is a little oil. If you can invest in a little time and efffort you can save yourself some money. just a thought.
