I am still waiting to run across a free piece of tyvek. In the meantime I have a small piece of heavy duty plastic that has worked well for a couple years. Also use it to lay down like a sitpad or lay items on to keep them clean when cooking or whatnot.

I have an old Clark hammock with the pockets under it. In one of those pockets I have flipflops that just stay in there for camp shoes when needed.

Small piece (2'x3') of $3.99 plastic tarp. Purchased dark green instead of blue so it feels more "outdoorsy"

I use a 3 mil trash bag as my "welcome mat". Holds up well, light weight, packs up small and can double as rain protection for gear if needed. It's not officially a campsite until the welcome mat comes out.

I know this is a fairly old thread - but what are you guys doing to keep your "mat" in place under the hammock?
I have a piece of Tyvek - and I'm thinking rocks or something in the corners would work, but I'm curious what other people do?

I use a DIY 15d silnylon poncho I made. I never really use it as it just an emergency shelter/ rainwear so it sometimes double duties as a ground cloth, although I don't always use it.

although with the possibilities of me going to ground I sometimes take a reflectix/ccf/ or a DIY hybrid as the poncho is very thin. I then use this as a ground cloth to save wear and tear to the poncho

I just use my compactor bag that I keep my dry stuff in, in my pack.. Ofcourse care must be taken to remove sharp objects before putting down..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..
