Well, my heavily pregnant wife and I took our dogs to the woods this evening; I thoughtfully packed a folding chair for her and, at the last minute grabbed a scrap length of 1.4oz rips top nylon as a rudimentary hammock chair.

I tie an overhand knot in each end and larks footed my tree straps directly to the nylon inside the knots. As I sat there, swinging back and fore a bit, there was a rip and I found myself on the floor on my back! The fabric had ripped half through right next to the larks foot knot on one side and I had flipped off the remaining material.

I am 200lb (100kg) so I guess 1.4oz is too lightweight for me to be swaying on. I might not be quite so blasé next time!image.jpg

How wide was the fabric (looks narrow in the photo)? It may have been insufficient in width as 1.4 oz should have done the job.

I sat in the underquilt instead of the hammock. Shockcord doesn't hold me up.

Aha, thanks, that might explain it. The fabric was probably a foot wide by 2 - 3 ft long
