Tarp door issues

I have a superfly and I think its a great tarp. I really love the concept of doors on a tarp, especially for winter camping. I have yet to figure a way I really like when staking out my doors.

I have done the one stake per door and crossed so its all closed up but I find this sucks when trying to get in. I have done the on stake for both and find this doesn't close the doors as well. It does give you a little space to try and squeeze through but it still is tight and I have to loosen one door to get in.

Is there a better way. Something a little more user friendly. I have resorted to just going under one side of the tarp cause it quicker. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem. I've changed my lines a bit on the doors and added a short line and mitten hook from Dutch to the tie outs on the door that hook to the shock cord that goes to the stakes. This allow me to more easily unhook the door and rejoin it when I get in and out. Not perfect, but it's better than trying to unhook from the stake each time.

I always wanted to add two pieces of like material (the same as the tarp) along the bottom of the door at its' longest point. Then I'd be able to expand my trekking pole to 'fit' into those two opposing triangular pockets thus giving the door some structure. For all the more weight it would be I'd even add additional pocket or sleeve, a guide sort of, for my second trekking pole to expand for an upright in addition to the bottom door mod. That may be overkill but interesting to think about the possibilities of a door that has a frame to it. I'd only set up one door and take weather into consideration when site selecting so the 'door' end wouldn't face into the weather. Still it would need a mitten hook and shock cord, some sort of latch, installed with a sewn on patch to make a door knob, kinda hook place. I imagine you'd have a hinged door of sorts. Thats what I never did yet.

I use shock cord as tie-outs for the doors of both my SuperFly and my HG Stnd tarps. With the shock cord pulled reasonably tight the doors are secure. To enter/exit the tarp simply pull the door out of the way, the shock cord snaps the door back into place. When I am not using the doors the shock cord keeps the doors tied back to the side tie-outs.

I am almost certain I first saw this in a Shug video.

I always stake down three doors and leave one open for entry/exit. I don't stake the last door till I go to bed. I was thinking about putting shock cord on that 4th door, but it really doesn't bother me to exit the tarp (for evening whizz) even when it's staked.

I use shock cord and a cord lock toggle. Pull shock cord through toggle to tighten. Loosen toggle to enter/exit.

How well would adding sections of velcro every couple of inches work? Keep it open then when it is time to go to bed you could velcro the two doors together than stake it down to one stake if it is windy or raining for extra security.

I find velcro tends to load up with various materials and stop working when I want it to. Plus it is heavy and bulky.

FWIW - I don't see a need to tighten up the down wind end all that much. Stake one door in and one door out to leave a sort of baffled entrance unless dealing with heavy fog or similar crazy weather.
