Is it common to use a different ridgeline for a tarp if you have a HH

I just got 2 HH, a hyperlight and an expedition, and so far I have been using the system the way Hennessy recommends (or at least I think I am). My previous system was the typical a la carte, with the tarp on it's own line. While it is easier to simply pull everything out of the snakeskins all together and just stake down the tarp as well as the hammock pullouts, I feel uneasy about the tarp with regards to stress and a tight pitch. I watched Derek's vid on getting a tight pitch by using a 30 degree angle, but I just don't feel confident in this system yet. I am still adjusting to the whole new setup, and I do miss my whoopies that have now been replaced with the spectra cord knotted to a carabiniere on the straps.

So, I am wondering what other HH users do as far as the tarp because I have already ripped one tieout on an end of one of the tarps due to too much strain placed on it. That was the first day, so I think I am improving, but I don't want my learning curve to be at the cost of my gear.

(on a side note, is it easy to fix a ripped tie-out)

Never liked the sag of attaching the tarp to the hammock ridgeline, and Derek's solution (shock cord) isn't much better. I went to a separate ridgeline.

I run both style of tarp (Hex and smaller summer tarp) on a separate ridgeline. It allows me more adjustment, and allows me to have the hammock done up in a snakeskin and still hide from rain under the tarp.

I don't think there is a way get a perfectly tight tarp if it is on the ridgeline. It does help however to have some shock cord on the tie outs (self-tensioning tie outs) to get the tarp tight but not so tight as to rip anything.

I use a separate ridge line for my hex tarp. That way it can go up and down separately which is important in the rain. And wet, the tarp is stored in an outside backpack pocket.

I use two Dutch Stingerz and 12' of Zing-it instead of a CRL on my HH Hex Tarp.

If I am using the HH stock tarp, I used the HH method for setting up the tarp. Most of the time I used a BCUSA 10x10 tarp on it's own ridge line. So for me the answer is both

I prefer a separate ridge line with the hex tarp, but the regular method with the small tarp.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I thought the same, but I didn't want to modify a system if the original design was better to begin with. I will prob always use a separate line from now on, though I do like the last answer of separate for hex, same for small tarp, bc I will prob only use the smaller tarp in perfect conditions anyway.

As far as ripping the tieout at the seam, does anyone have experience with this? Ideas on best ways to fix this effectively are most appreciated.

Is it common to use a different ridgeline for a tarp if you have a HH

Here is my Hex tarp on a separate ridge line. This tarp is huge!

Here is a photo of my Dutchware Stingerz.

That photo also shows the carabiner I use to attach the HH rope to the tree strap. I do not like the figure 8 knot that HH suggests (and untying it when wet is even worse!). The half hitch used with the carabiner just slips off during tear down.

    Cheers

Don't know why the first photo did not post. Here it is:

Sorry, managed to fix the problem with the post above this. Of course, are too many photos of hammocks ever a problem?
