That would cost more than the order itself...
That's not unusual for smaller shipments. I just finished ordering in some Taslan fabric for hiking pants from Rockywoods in CO. Fabric costs 42.74 (2 prs of pants), shipping $22.95.

Just one more price we pay for living in Canada...

My suggestion is to go with W2C as they're some of the best brokers in Canada.

I'm bringing in more stuff now. Cheaper to have larger orders for the shipping. Also found a local / Canadian source for my polyester webbing and such.

How come there aren't any Canadian topquilt and underquilt manufacturers? Or do they exist and I just don't know about them.

I have no problem supporting US (or other foreign) cottage manufacturers like I've done before, but I'd like to support local Canadian industry if possible.

The down quilt industry is amazing. Im doing some cool weather - summer Apex quilts for people but leave
the down quilts to the pro's. I'm eyeballing an Incubator 20 but the boss says no

I think as a general rule, if it is coming by USPS/Canada Post and under $100 it will escape taxes and the dreaded brokerage fees.

    A source for Amsteel is chandleryonline.com. Their 7/64 amsteel is $Cdn 0.35 a foot.

Keep an eye on the Princess Auto flyers. They often have webbing straps on sale.

I do some work for folk making traditional toboggan packs and canoeing "software" and the occasional tarp but generally because fabric is cheaper in the USA it has to be a specialist custom item or it will cheaper to buy from the USA when labour charges are included.

Thanks for the info on the cordage, the chandlery is right here in Ottawa! I can now physically go and buy amsteel and poly webbing.. granted it's a little pricier @ .35/ft ($.30 USD) but it's $CDN, no shipping and no duty fees..
Too bad my diygearsupply.com order just shipped yesterday...

The website is http://www.thechandleryonline.com/ and the physical address is 367 Poulin Ave, Ottawa, Ontario

Now if I could only get local fabric at a decent price.

    Guterman Thread

I have just been chatting with the distributor for Guterman in Canada today, principally about Tera 40 but of course they do have other weights available.

Is anyone else interested in buying this thread?

It's available singly in 4000m spools or in boxes (of 10) I think in 400m and 1,200m.

I'm waiting for more details on colours and prices but it would be good to hear from anyone else wanting to buy some.
