Some specs and field test words on Argon Sil, Hillbilly Black Rhino Tarp

I finally have the finished specs for the Black Rhino:
10'2'' long x 8' 6" wide (I cut the material generous for any cutting errors and decided to just go with whatever dimensions that I ended up with after hemming). Weight, sealed, fully rigged and in the stuff sack is 14 1/8 ounces.
I used 3/4" webbing with 3/4" BeastieD's on the ridgeline, 3/4 inch grograin on the main side pull outs and 3/8" grograin for a few additional places to anchor tarp (mid-way between 2 middle pull outs part way down on the ends for closing doors off tightly). I did not put on side panel pulls, since I rarely use them. I used the 1 mm cord from Litetrail for the sides and the glowire from Lawson Outdoors for the ridgelines. I put loops of 1/8" shock cord on each of the side pull outs and attached the 1 mm cord to that. I used a couple of Dutch quilt hooks on the doors to hook the doors to each other when the tarp is used as a hex tarp. The stuff sack is a double-ended one made from the same Argon Sil material.

The tarp will pitch as a rectangular tarp, a hex tarp and a hex with doors. It actually pitches very nicely, even without cat cuts.

I had the tarp out for 3 nights this past week/weekend, with weather ranging from breezy to light to moderate rain to very nice. There was a fair amount of condensation after the rain, but then we all had condensation the next morning. No leaks. The tarp did well in the wind. The more I use it, the more I like it. I will put up some "in the woods" pics after I get them uploaded.

All in all, this was a nice tarp project. The Argon sil was not bad to work with and it makes a very nice looking tarp. So, What are Yah Waitin' For? Go Make a tarp!

Sounds great, I have some black Argon Sil at the house now just waiting to be transformed into my new tarp. Certainly looking forward to it and loving these positive reports on the Argon Sil for sure.

Working on one now for my son. It's great material to work with and I love the rich brown color.

Many say that your standard sylnylon that tarps are made from is stretchy esp when wet.
How is the stretch for the Argon syl more less or about the same?
    thanks

I would say the stretch is about the same. The shock cord on the side guy outs definitely kept things tighter.

Can't wait to see those outside pics. I thought the stretch was comparable to regular 1.1 sil, but a little more giving IMO. Awesome material.

Finally had time to get my field pictures uploaded. These were taken on the last day of our hike. I did not get any pics after the rain.

Wow, super versatile and light! I can't believe I missed this thread when you started it. Nice job.

Boulder, agreed, possibly a bit more stretch when wet than the heavier stuff, but really negligible.

CR from WV, did you reinforce the tie outs? Just curious...I didn't on mine.

I really like the darker color of the tarp.
Question: sounds like you sewed the shock cord to the tarp?
