I finally have the finished specs for the Black Rhino:
10'2'' long x 8' 6" wide (I cut the material generous for any cutting errors and decided to just go with whatever dimensions that I ended up with after hemming). Weight, sealed, fully rigged and in the stuff sack is 14 1/8 ounces.
I used 3/4" webbing with 3/4" BeastieD's on the ridgeline, 3/4 inch grograin on the main side pull outs and 3/8" grograin for a few additional places to anchor tarp (mid-way between 2 middle pull outs part way down on the ends for closing doors off tightly). I did not put on side panel pulls, since I rarely use them. I used the 1 mm cord from Litetrail for the sides and the glowire from Lawson Outdoors for the ridgelines. I put loops of 1/8" shock cord on each of the side pull outs and attached the 1 mm cord to that. I used a couple of Dutch quilt hooks on the doors to hook the doors to each other when the tarp is used as a hex tarp. The stuff sack is a double-ended one made from the same Argon Sil material.
The tarp will pitch as a rectangular tarp, a hex tarp and a hex with doors. It actually pitches very nicely, even without cat cuts.
I had the tarp out for 3 nights this past week/weekend, with weather ranging from breezy to light to moderate rain to very nice. There was a fair amount of condensation after the rain, but then we all had condensation the next morning. No leaks. The tarp did well in the wind. The more I use it, the more I like it. I will put up some "in the woods" pics after I get them uploaded.
All in all, this was a nice tarp project. The Argon sil was not bad to work with and it makes a very nice looking tarp. So, What are Yah Waitin' For? Go Make a tarp!
