Whoopie ridgeline constantly under tension; should I be concerned?

So here's the situation. I have a Byer Vario hammock stand, one of these guys (http://www.amazon.com/Byer-Maine-A40.../dp/B00092M27I).

I decided to "upgrade" my office with a hammock, rather than have it sit out in the backyard unused, so I cleaned it off and brought it inside. The trouble was, the stand was about 2 or 3 inches too long for the room. I solved this by loading the hammock with weight (myself), and tightening a whoopie sling ridgeline under load to keep the arms flexed inwards. This gave me enough clearance to have it in the room; I'm just a little wary about coming home one day to have two nice new holes punched into the drywall of my office.

The hammock's been up for about 3 days now and I cannot detect any change in length, but I wanted to touch base with all you experts to see if I'm doing something silly.

What material are you using for the ridgeline? It should be fine (I'm not an expert - if anyone else disagrees, disregard me) if it's suspension grade or higher.

Hi bushwhacker, sorry, should have mentioned. It is 7/64 Amsteel.

I think you'll be just fine. It's no different then having a rope strung between two trees, and hanging off of two points.

Amsteel is very strong. If you are worried about it, and have the skills, make a slightly-longer cord with locked-brummel eyesplices at both ends. If the main snaps at some point, the secondary will hopefully catch the ends before they go through the drywall.

I have this stand and seems to me you could cut the center bottom pole down to allow the the uprights to adjust in more. This would fit it in the room and take tension off the hammock........ No?
