Planning for dolly sods need tent/hang sites

I am going to be going on a father/son backpacking trip with my Dad this summer and we would like to go to Dolly Sods. He is a die-hard grind dweller, so I need to find some campsites that will accommodate the both of us.
I have been to dolly sods once but Leavethebronx and I weren't looking for tent sites. I know we want to go to the forks and lions head, and we both have 4 days off and 5 hours travel each way to monongahela.
I know there are some dolly sods experts around here and I thank you in advance for your help.
I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.

The Forks is an obvious choice, but it will be popular on weekends. Still there are quite a few spots downstream a bit, too. Now that I think of it, there are campsites at just about every place that a trail crosses Red Creek (including both forks). Country Roads knows some nice campsites that aren't near anything (and you can't find), FWIW. It's worth looking around yourself, but keep map and compass handy. Check water levels. Sometimes in wet weather Red Creek isn't crossable.

I live in Columbus but grew up less than an hour from DS and have hiked the area many times. I can not think of a place I have camped that would not accommodate a tent and hammock, with the usual looking for just the right trees. My son and I hung at the forks last year and it was easy to find the right spot. I would agree with WV about when you go. Weekends could be more difficult as the DC crowds get crazy (so I hear), I have always gone early in the week m-th, I just don't like crowds. Good luck and have fun.
