Checking my Hang on Turtledog stand

    Just got this together.
    Legs are 7' long.
Top pole was 10' 6" before I cut it in half.

When I sit, my feet touch the ground.
When I lay on my side, my top knee isn't quite supported. Might need a knee pillow if the problem isn't the angle or needing a longer top pole.

    Thoughts?

Go out and find a pair of trees 12 to 15 feet apart, and experiment with different suspensions: height from the ground, sag angle, and ridge line length (use a ridge line). With three variables, that's of lot of experimenting. Once you've found a comfortable setup, then see if you can duplicate it using a stand. It's likely that you'll want a longer ridge pole, and you may want shorter legs for the stand, but remember the old lament, "I cut it twice, and it's still too short!"

Will do all of that . Been cutting the legs gradually. Down to 6'5" now which is perfect for this length ridge pole .

Going to get another top rail to have a longer option.

    Reading up on ridge lines...

I am new to the hammock thing, lots of reading, but new to getting started, I have a grand trunk of the same thing, using the same heavy cord and s hooks. Get some woopie slings to replace those. Amazing how flexible it is after that. And tree straps.

Drill a hole about 6 inches in on each end. (Bottom). Put 2 S hooks in those holes.
Then shorten the cords running through the channels. It will raise you up but still give you sag.
This worked for my ENO on that top rail.

From your pic it looks like you have a 45* angle from the ridge pole to the tarp. If you want that to be around 30*, you need to tighten up your tarp quite a bit OR lengthen your ridge pole.

You might want to hang your hammock to trees that are 6-8 paces apart, tighten it so you have a 30* angle from horizontal, and measure so you know the minimum length the ridge pole has to be to fit your hammock.
