Do you use an UQ Protector?

Considering there only seems to be a UQP vendor, I get the impression that they're not that popular.

Are the only advantages a slight temp increase and mud/splash protection?

    Are they worth the weight?

I received a UQP for Christmas this year and have used it half a dozen times already. It's big advantage for me is it does a good job of blocking wind, it keeps the mud/rain from splashing up on my UQ, and my best guess is that it adds about 10F degrees to the warmth of my set up. For me it was $ well spent.

+1 on this. I love the UQP and it weighs so little, it is worth carrying. I use a sock in winter instead of the UQP to give added warmth all over. It keeps the heat in and my face doesn't get so cold.

I take mine with the majority of the time. If it's cool and windy or raining I use it.

never used one and don't know why i would. hundreds of nights without and never wet or wind problems with quilt. so for me, not worth the weight.

My poncho doubles as an UQP when needed. It significantly extends the range of the uq. As far as a single use item, no.

I have one, but I pretty much feel this way. The only time I really needed one was during some blowing rain. But I only had 2 doors on my tarp so mist was blowing in. So, I guess I should take all 4 tarp doors for much less bulk/weight and call it a day.

I also forgot to take my UQP on my last winter trip. Took my 20° +1oz overstuff Incubator down to 3°F without the slightest chill, so I'm not worried about temps either.

But for $30 or so, I'll hang on to it.

I use my UQP whenever I set up my hammock unless I am playing in my backyard (good grass). It blocks the breeze adds warmth, and provides good protection from rain splatters. UQ's are too expensive and important to leave to chance. I would protect any UQ with this solid investment. Originally uesd a poncho, but the UQP simply works. In winter I would use a sock (if I had one) and the UQP because with a pulk, it's easy to bring along. If weight were an issue, I would lose it elsewhere.

Mine's a DIY made to fit my bridge hammock and UQ. I like the way it cuts breezes out and if I don't need it snugged up for that I end up using it for a gear shelf. Holds all my clothes that came off when I went to bed, extras I might need through the night, etc.

I decided to leave it home last summer on a rainy day in a campsite with a bare dirt ground. The next morning when I tore down I had mud splattered all over the bottom of my under quilt. I won't be repeating that again. Of course I was using my Hammock Gear Cuben Fiber tarp which has shorter sides. Had I used my Superfly with longer sides it likely would not have been an issue.
