    Tarp advice

So I've finished one tarp and it's fine but too small so now I'm looking at making another that's big enough for my and my tarp I was think that 5 yards of Sil-nylon from Ripstopbytheyard would be enough for me to make a decent Cat-cut. For those of you reading this that have made one can you tell me do you think that'd be enough? Also what kind of hem do you use I usually just do a rolled hem on most things.

That only make for a 7.5 foot ridge line?

See that's what I'm thinking about I'm not sure if I want to go bigger I'm not completely happy with my 7ft ridgeline but I'm not at that sure if go all the way up to a 10ft so I'm asking the people that are much smarter then me and hoping they've got some knowledge that they wouldn't mind sharing.

I rock a 12 foot. But also hang 2 hammocks under one tarp a lot.

I don't it's usually just me way out in the woods alone. I've been getting a lot of blow by in the rain as it comes in from the side.

Need some clarification. Do you currently use the tarp over your hammock?

A tarp with a 7 foot ridgeline won't cover just about any hammock I've ever seen used for camping. Your info says you use a Grand Trunk hammock and while manufacturing can vary the finished lengths of hammocks, it likely is around 10 feet long which equates to around 9 feet of hammock that needs to be covered putting it much longer than your tarp. Even using a 5x7 tarp in diamond configuration is still too short for you hammock.

A 10 foot rideline would be the minum length for adequate protection. For side protection I think 4 feet per side is adequate. How you pitch it is also an important factor in getting good weather protection.

With regards to sewing, a flat felled seam can be used for forming the ridgeline where the two sides will be connectedd and a rolled hem works for the edges.

7' is WAY too small. I wouldn't go anything under 10', personally I think 11' is the magic ridgeline number for tarps. Long enough to cover your ends from rain, short enough so that you can snug it down low enough over your hammock for good side coverage. From my experimenting with tyvek, I've found that a 10x11 rectangle with extra tieouts on the sides works best for me.

I just made a tarp with doors having a 10' ridgeline. It took 9 yards of material.

If you don't make a tarp with doors, 7 yds of sil will do it for you.
