I am thinking of downsizing my hammock tarp. Something maybe the size of the Warbonnet Edge but the Clark 'standard' size looks interesting but I can't tell from the website exactly how it is made.
Can someone tell me if the standard tarp has 4 tie out points or 6 tie outs? And, is it basically a rectangle with cat cuts or is it hex cut (or something else)?

I got the standard XL Clark tarp. It's got 6 tie outs and it's a wee bit hex shaped, but I have to play close attention to see which end is the head end and which is the foot end. I have probably managed to switch them around at some point and not noticed it.
+1 to Latt's Comments- I thought I would like a bigger tarp and I got a screaming deal on a Hennessey Safari Deluxe tarp for $20.00! and I do use it in foul weather, but I have found the Clark XL to have plenty of coverage, especially if I use hiking poles and "porch" one side- weather permitting of course.Originally Posted by Passinthru

My JRB tarp is more than I need most of the time, as would be the Clark XL. The JRB would make a great group/dining tarp though. I'm thinking that an Edge or Clark Standard would be 'just enough' for the hammock. For simplicity I like the Edge because of just 4 tie-outs.

If this helps: The current standard Clark rain fly is not to be confused with the long-discontinued smaller one, 3 dimensional in tailoring. The current Vertex rain fly is the same width at head and foot ends, where the earlier one, of several years ago, was not. Long ago, tapered rain fly design was more popular, for easy weight saving. Have a look at Paul's nice rain fly designs at ArrowHead (AHE). The Toxaway and especially the Shanrila come to mind. Both, however have deeper catenary cuts than Clark has ever included in its products
My first ever experience in a hammock was in a loaner (thanks again, Bigbamaguy) Clark NA. I didn't lay out the tarp to see for sure but as I recall it was a tapered, even 3-dimensional, design. From the pictures on the Clark site it looks as if that has changed - but it is hard to tell for sure. In the pics it still looks tapered (but not 3 dimensional) with 4 tie outs. In the comparison chart it is shown as rectangular with 6 tie outs.
Well, if one ever shows up 'for sale' I can confirm the design then.

I just received a standard trap it has six tie outs.
