Exclamation Deal on CAMP Wire Nano Biner.

I was looking to order some descending rings and a couple of the CAMP Wire Nano biners but REI was out of the biners.

I found them on sale at Backcountry.com for 4.71 each. They are 6.95 each on REI. Here's the linky:

    http://www.backcountry.com/store/CMP...Carabiner.html

I was also going to buy some descending rings from them but when I did an Backcountry search it came up with nothing, but they offered me another $10 off because they couldn't find what I was looking for. I hope this link works (if not try searching for descending ring):

    http://search.backcountry.com/?id=2S...ESCENDING+RING

This $10 discount covered my UPS ground shipping plus a little extra. I got 4 CAMP Nano biners for ~$17.00 shipped. Great deal.

Basically switching from the biners I currently use on my HH to the CAMP nano will save me about 1.2oz total from the Black Diamond biners I am currently using. Here's the specs on the CAMP:

    Major Axis Strength: 22kN
    Minor Axis Strength: 10kN
    Open Gate Strength: 9kN
    Locking: No
    Shape: Offset D
    Gate Type: Wire
    Material: Aluminum
Recommended Use: Trad and alpine climbing
    Weight: 1oz (28g)
    Warranty: Lifetime

Thanks for the link. I have been wanting to order some. I think going through a loop in the webbing like I am doing puts a lot of stress on the straps.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

I noticed my webbing starting to look a little fuzzy after not too many uses of looping through itself. I've already switched to the Nano biners and rings. I haven't actually used it like that other than some backyard testing, but I like it a lot.

I just bought a pair of em at REI here in Dallas along with 4 descending rings and 30' of 1", tubular webbing. The biners were marked at $7.50, the descending rings, $2.50 ($2.75 on the website) and the webbing was $0.32/foot equaling $9.60 (the prepackaged bag on the website was $11.50). Now I gotta get to a sewing machine!!

I also bought a set of titanium tent pegs to replace my plastic ones that have broken.

Another step or two closer to my section hike.
    Peace,
    Joe

I'm not really sure how I'm gonna use these yet. I also ordered the descending rings from REI to try out the ring buckle supports. If I like the ring buckle supports it will eliminate biners in my standard suspension system using a Speer 4 wrap knot. The CAMP biners may just replace the Black Diamonds in the pic and I will continue to use the 4 wrap knot.

If I end up liking the ring buckle supports it will allow me to eliminate the biners altogether. I will also be able to trim down my support webbing from 15' each to about 9-10' each saving more weight.

If I do end up using the ring buckles I probably won't use a biner to attach the webbing to the tree. I'll just use a loop on the end. I have used the loop method with regular buckle supports with no problems. I never liked these buckles because they have a tendency to lock up and were very hard to get undone at times

There must be a lot of guys on here who are a LOT stronger than I am...I've tightened my CC buckles as tight as I possibly could, laid in the hammock for 15 minutes or so, and had no problem at all getting them undone.
