    Cheapest (Group) Hang?

So have any of you managed to organize or go on a cheap group hang? Where did you spend the money? From what I can tell, most of the time funds go to:
    1) Gas
    2) Food
    3) Camping Permits
    4) Corrupt (or extremely financially incompetent) organizers (True story though - I had a friend that went on an outrageously priced but modestly supplied backpacking trip)

Also, what are some of your best cheap camp foods for group hangs? Do you each bring your own, or do you do some sort of communal meal plan?

Do people here look favourably on carpooling?

    Cheapest (Group) Hang?

The last group hang with all the food, gas and camp fees, it came up to just under $200.00 for 4 people. I have paid less on other trips too. I have also paid more but then I did supply a 15lb roast for communal dinner on Saturday.

    Was that for a weekend?

I've been on quite a few trips with my University, and they generally come out to ~50$/person. Sometimes they can get down to 15$ or something, although that's almost unheard of. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to afford anything more than that for a while (as I know plenty of free non-group friendly park camp sites within the range of public transport that I'm sticking to for the moment).

That was for a whole weekend. If you are interested in a group hang but might not be able to attend because of finances it doesn't hurt to talk to the person organizing the event and find out the true costs.

Many of our group hangs don't cost anything. We camp on lands that don't have fees or permits. Everybody brings their own food, unless we have a potluck, then we bring an item or two to share with the group. Sometimes people get rides from other hangers. Depends on the organizers.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

Im all about cheap hanging! Haha
Ive done pretty well so far. Id say the biggest expenses for me are gas (I drive a prius so its not horrible haha), communal food item, and fees. But even with all that for example the NEHHA spring swing probably totalled around $50 for 4 days/ 3 nights.
