So my hems/edges of hammocks feel really tight, and it's kind of uncomfortable to sit on the edge of my hammock.
Any suggestions? Do I whip it differently? Did I make a mistake with the thread I used to hem it?

You should be folding the edge to the middle of the hammock before sitting. Makes a huge difference.

Nhott,
That makes complete sense, and not sure how long, (if ever, maybe??), till I figured out a simple trick like that.
My first hammock currently under construction..... hopefully first test hang in it tomorrow...

www.tothewoods.net has a couple different methods for whipping. I personally used a "w" whip until recently.
"We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it."- G. W. Sears
My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.
Yep, we usually adjust the whipping.
Also use the W fold pulling up a little extra fabric in the middle of the fold.
Using some continuous loops and a double sheet bend makes it a snap to change the whipping.
Have sherpas, will travel...
Triangles, it's all about the triangles.

I always wondered if, or how much, how the ends were gathered in the last few inches would effect the lay of the hammock.... Apparently enough to make a difference....
So are you using the w fold method then? If not what?
