    Hello from Columbus

Hello. Newbie here from columbus Ohio. Just got an eno double nest for Christmas and plan to use it next year on a ten day on the john Muir trail. My current set up is paracord straps, and a standard blue tarp hung a symmetrically with paracord as well. I think next I need to get a bug net. The tarp has worked thus far fine, but is there any reason to think this is a bad idea? Totally new to all of this so need help. Was thinking of going just sleeping bag since the hike will be in July as well.

Welcome to HF! You may find the blue tarp to be a bit heavy and bulky, and maybe not as sturdy as you'd hope in a big wind. Depending on your budget, you could probably pick up a lighter and more durable tarp given the benefit in lightening your pack. Not sure how the bugs are on the JMT, but I've found the ENO-DN to be a comfortable hammock to sleep in when bug netting isn't needed. I keep one hanging in my basement pretty much all the time...

    Welcome to HF.
You might want to steer away from paracord as a hammock suspension system. It is not really suited to support a hammock, plus it's small diameter can damage trees.
Blue poly tarps are fine but as others have stated they are bulky and heavy. If your budget is tight sportsmans guide has usable nylon tarps relatively cheap.
I used a sock style DIY net with and eno doublenest for a few years. Recently switched to a fronkey style DIY net.
    Happy hanging
I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.

Welcome from Central Ohio. Yeah, you're going to need a bugnet on the JM for sure. +1 on tarp replacement suggestions above.

Looks like you're already getting some good advice. Welcome!
The other downside to paracord is it's stretch. Lots of great, not very expensive options in the suspension section.

    Welcome from Troy,ohio.

Look for a better setup on suspension. Like tree straps. And whoopies are a good upgrade for the eno dn. May want to consider a structural ridgeline also, helps support a bug net and my imo it makes for a more comfortable lay.
