    Semi-permanent suspension?????

So, I ordered 5 tablecloths and they arrived on Saturday afternoon. I have already sewn channels in them and run a zip tie through the ends.

We are planning on putting these up in our backyard and if we can get them adjusted and comfortable enough then DH and our son would like to take them to Cub Scout camps.

So for our backyard use, what would you use for a semi-permanent hang? We would put them up in the spring and possibly just leave them out or we would take the fabric down and leave just the tree straps up for quick set up.

We plan to put some eye bolts in to a building that is about 15 feet away from a 12 diameter tree. We have also set a 5" diameter pole, buried 3' deep in to the ground set in concrete. I think we are planning on putting an eye bolt in to the pole. Two hammocks will run from the pole to the building and two hammocks will run from the tree to the building. Then one hammock could run from the tree to the pole.

How much webbing and cordage do I need?

How would you "tie" things together?

if youre using webbing and weight is not a factor, cinch buckles are foolproof. http://dutchwaregear.com/cinch-buckle.html http://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/1buckle-set/

I would think any suspension (or hammock) left out in the elements daily will fail rather quickly - I'd have a hard time sleeping at night with that thought in mind. It's so easy to take down the suspension - why the desire to leave it up?

I used webbing with triangles and Dutch clips nearly every day for 6 months, then swapped out a different hammock that also used webbing and triangles. Same Dutch clips all year. My setup with ready straps, cinch buckles and carabiniers will be used this year. Watch the straps if you are leaving them in one position for extended period of time. I always shifted mine every week or two.

I would be concerned about hanging multiple adults from a 5" dia. wood pole. Save that for smaller kids.

THANKS!!! We are not worried about the weight and transporting them, at least not for now.

Just want to be able to leave it up so the kids can quickly and easily attach the hammocks to them when they want. One of them is a book worm and I have a feeling it will become a favorite place for an afternoon read.

That is not what I wanted to hear. We just set the pole to use for hanging the hammocks. I thought that by using round instead of 4x4 or 6x6 that we would have more strength. DH said maybe it is more like 6" diameter. I will have to measure it to be sure.

    THANKS!!!

i have heard of 4''x4''s breaking. i would stick with a 6 er http://theultimatehang.com/hammock-hang-calculator/ you can imagine the kinds of force on anchor points using this.

the change in stress on anchors due to hang angles is incredible! be sure to use a 30% hang angle

Why not use a stainless eye on the tree? They do no real harm and hold quite well.

??? What is this??? I have never heard of it.

Now I am all paranoid about hooking the hammocks to the pole. I want something that we don't even have to think about as far as if it will hold or not.
