Newbie question on sil tarp material

I bought some sil to make a diy tarp. Which side is toward the weather. One side is shiny the other is dull.
    Thanks for any input.

Silnylon is nylon impregnated with silicone, not coated. Both sides should be the same.

Yes both sides are the same regarding the coating so it doesn't matter which you face out towards the weather. I think you are referring to the fact that one side of the camo sil is slightly more vibrant than the other due to the saturation of the camo print. For aesthetic reasons, I would put the vibrant side out.

Although the word impregnated is used a lot for silnylon, it actually is coated in silicone on each side. There are slightly different methods for applying the coating, but for our sil it's done by drawing a blade across the uncoated baseline nylon once on each side of the fabric. However, you could say the finished product is impregnated as sil penetrates between the tiny holes in the weave to completely encapsulate the fabric.
