    Amsteel dogbones usage

This may be a silly question, but what exactly are the uses of Amsteel dogbones?
I am currently using continuous loops larksheaded to my hammock, with carabiners slipped through to attach to python straps but am extremely curious about dogbones (if for no other reason than to play with the couple dozen feet of Amsteel in my garage).
And sadly, no, I haven't made the leap to whoopies yet. But someday...

I use a pair of dynaglide dogbones to whip the ends of my indoor hammock that are long enough to also work as the suspension of the hammock. You can use them to extend tree straps, hang a pack from a tree. I use a zingit dogbone to hold up the foot side UQ suspension so that it doesn't run across the top of my feet, hang shoes from. Too many uses to list.

Note that you have two lines coming off your continuous loop larks head. With a dogbone you would only have one. Same effect, less material. I use dogbones when I need a short extension. And I can bend it in half to shorten more if needed. You are right in that your continuous loop can do about anything the doggone can do. But the dogbone takes less material and the single line can be "cleaner".

I know it's going to be a "whatever floats your boat" kind of thing, but I guess I'm asking if it would be advisable to replace the loops on my hammock and TDS with dogbones?
Come on, somebody say yes, I've got about 30 feet of this stuff left just calling my name!

I made a couple dog bones last week to keep handy should the need arise. I like that it's a locked brummel on each end, so I don't have to worry about it coming apart when not loaded. For a continuous loop, you'd need to stitch the bury or it can come apart when not loaded.

A dogbone will actually create more length between the items you are trying to link compared to a continuous loop so that's something to consider.

If you're trying to use it around your hammock whipping or through your hammock channel for a suspension link you may need to do a few wraps through one of the eyes to equal the same distance from a single wrapped continuous loop.

I keep a few in my stake bag for extending my suspension for trees that are further apart or to extend the straps themselves if one or both of the trees is too girthy to go around.

    This.
I have 2, 4 foot dogbones in my hang kit. The pair weights .5 oz. Lots of uses--extend a tree strap or carry shorter straps, hang a pack or water sack off a tree, extend a tarp tie out, etc. It i just a more useful version of the 'extra hank of rope' you would bring anyways

This is the reason I lost interest immediately in dogbones to replace the continuous loops in the channels on my hammocks. I was hoping I could reduce the length of my hammock ridgeline and they extended the length. I do carry a couple of dogbones for strap extension and hanging stuff.

Dream Hammocks mentions something called "gear loops" on their website. Essentially dog bones - but I think this is a pretty great use for them.

Like others have said - I'm not sure I see the benefit to using them in place of continuous loops in hammock suspensions. As extenders, sure.
