    Hello from Ontario, Canada

Been on the forum for a while while researching my DIY project. I've finished so thought it was time to say hi to all.

I've made a gathered end double layer from 1.1 oz ripstop and made whoopies out of amsteel blue (remarkably easy to make with the info on this forum!)

I did this project with one of my best buddies which made it even better....he is on the forum here as Algonquin_bound...

We used diygearsupply plans to sew the hammock...a great resource...

Our next step is to attach an integrated bug net as the biters out here can be brutal...

We will be using them for the first time in the beginning of may on an Algonquin park fishing trip...if we don't catch any Brookies I'll at least sleep well knowing that I will, well...sleep well!

I'll be posting pics of my hammock and my DIY fleece 4x4 SPE

Welcome to the forums Marlyscanoe! I like your style... Trout'n in Algonquin.

Maybe we'll see you and Algonquin_Bound up there. We've got an EGL canoe hang heading up that way at the end of May, just in time for the really huge clouds of blackflies!

The black flies will be out in force then for sure!

Have a great trip and hope the flies aren't the only things biting!

Welcome from Quebec! I suggest a couple of nights backyard hanging just to test your sleep system. Discovering that you are cold, four portages away from your car in Algonquin Park, will be a little late.

    Cheers

Great advice that I should take.

Before I made my hammock I would camp with a goretex bivy bag during the shoulder seasons. I'll have it with me and if worse comes to worse I'll go to ground.

    Welcome from another Ontario hanger!

Y'all won't be fishing in AP in the immediate future. I did a drive through reconnaissance mission today and the lakes are still all very hard on top!

Although there were two desperate guys out on Smoke Creek in kayaks today. There weren't going very far, there was only open water from the put-in on Tea down to the inlet on Smoke but when ya gotta paddle, ya gotta paddle....

Nice to hear from some "Boots" on the ground!

I'm still holding out hope...we had worries last year right down to the wire with all the flooding and road washouts but luck kicked in and we were able to access the Park to fish Marie and Length...

We have it set up to stay at a car site after our back country reservation was cancelled and will keep checking in with the front gate...worse comes to worse there are some lakes we can access via portages off the 60 and fish From shore...

I'm keeping everything crossed at this point! I really appreciate the intel though, thanks Boot!

Lol. That was the same exact thing Chard and I had last year. Our trip was in danger of being cancelled/changed right up to 3 days before we went. The ice just seemed to wait until the last minute to go away to toy with our emotions. I hope you can get out.

    Tea Lake.jpg

Here's what Tea Lake looked like yesterday.

Good thing you went to Plan B and booked a car camping site.

The hiking trails are open so you can access any of the lakes that way for fishing from shore. The only creek that I could see from the highway that was wide open was Smoke Creek and it's only open for the length of the creek.
