using a tarp as a rainfly

does anybody use a regular tarp as a rainfly.I have ordered a blackbird xlc and was wondering what size tarp would be suitable for it.Going on a kayak/camping trip memorial day weekend since Im using a kayak the added weight or bulk of a tarp is really not an issue.

Look on Brandon's site.. His Tarps compliment the hammocks perfectly... So, I would go from there.. Practice setting your tarp up before you go..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

You want a Superfly, and his shipping times have come down as of late it seems...

BE SURE YOU PRACTICE AT HOME, very important. Get everything setup so you could do it blindfolded. Learning on site is NOT good. Practice makes perfect and it saves oops in the field, believe me I have experience! LOL

I think the OP is asking about using your run of the mill blue woven tarp as a....well a tarp.

OP, the confusion lies in that while the blue woven model is called a tarp, we also call all of the other higher quality variations tarps as well. The blue one's can definitely hold you over. Just make sure you have one that is 11 ft long so it has full coverage over your 10ft ridgeline (XLC). The biggest knocks on them is they are very heavy, very bulky, and generally weak when considered for long term use (grommets tearing and such).

Yes, that is why I directed him to the makers site....To see what sizes he sells.. Setting up on the diagonal with a 8x10 tarp has worked well for me in the beginning.. ymmv..

Righto. Nothing is more of a buzz kill than figuring out your equipment doesn't work as expected and you can't get a good night's sleep.

I used my 10x13 aqua quest many times. Any tarp will do as long as it covers the ends of the hammock.
