    McAfee Knob

If you are ever in the Roanoke, VA area, 4.5 mile hike from parking lot to McAfee Knob is well worth the time and effort. View at top is spectacular. Two different AT shelters are nearby. Took my son and 2 of his friends for an overnight. IMG_3894.jpgIMG_3990.jpgIMG_3893.jpg

Went last year around this time but it was drizzling and very foggy. No view whatsoever.
I have a trip planned mid-May to hike the Andy Layne trail up to Tinkers Cliff and then follow the AT to McAfee Knob and on to Dragon's Tooth. (AKA the Virginia Triple Crown)

And of course a meal at The Homeplace is a requirement when anywhere near McAfee Knob.

Thanks for posting. I'll post some of my pics after my trip.

Wow, beautiful pics. I love the early spring before the leaves come out. You really get a chance to see the hills before they're hidden by foliage. Nice!

The water source at Campbell's Shelter is about 5 minute walk. It is a good camp site, you can watch sunset from the top and walk down to camp.
