Looking to do overnighter first weekend of May

I just graduated emt class and was looking to do an overnighter to celebrate and finally unwind. Location and logistics would be up in the air as the only thing confirmed is the itch to get out and get dirty. I'm completely new to hammock camping but well experienced on the ground and will be bringing both amenities just incase. I'm located in Monmouth county by Belmar and willing to travel about an hour or so in any direction except due east (for obvious drowning precautions) to locations. Car camping is my current comfort level but I've backpacked full load outs on 10-12 mile circuits in big elevation places like Big Basin National Park, CA so hoofing it is not out of the question. Schedule flexibility is not an issue for the moment either. Let me know if you'd be interested!

Congratulations on your graduation. Unfortunately I am not available for a trip...in fact my entire month of May is booked (only 1 weekend is backpacking) - maybe later in the summer.

    Have fun!

An hour in any direction? Impressive range!

That does rather limit your choices - I live in Monmouth Beach and I think I've only camped once within an hour of my house - Turkey Swamp Park. I wouldn't do it again - $35 a night to hear people running generators all night.

Several NJ members of HF are pretty active hikers/campers - I've been on several group hangs in the last six months but not a single one within your range! Not a lot of car camping except the NJ Winter Hang in January and a Stokes State Forest Mini-MAHHA Hang last October. I just got back from a canoe trip down the Mullica River - had a spare seat in my canoe if anyone wanted to come along!

Wow, I go to a lot of group hangs, I guess.

8/17/13 - Adirondacks - Little Tupper to Rock Pond paddle
9/21/13 - Fall NEHHA - somewhere in western MA (Car camping)
10/18/13 - Stokes State Forest, NJ Mini-MAHHA (Car camping)
11/28/13 - Mullica River Pine Barrens (hike)
12/28/13 - Mullica River Pine Barrens (hike)
1/24/14 - NJ Winter Hang Batona Camp (Car Camping)
3/1/14 - GSHDA...NJ Batona Camp Pine Barrens (Car camping)
3/29/14 - Paddling Batsto River Pine Barrens
4/24/14 - Paddling Mullica River Pine Barrens

I'm already itching to get out again so I'll be watching for upcoming trips as well in the next couple of weeks.
