    Living without a WBBB shelf

I recently purchased a DH 11' Thunderbird. I like the lay and the way the netting is far from my face, but really miss the BB shelf. Everything fits in there. So that got me looking for options. I was unable to find anything like a storage bag/sack that is tied from the head peak inside the hammock. Other then that I guess a outside side bag may work. Any ideas? May look into buying the WB XLC if things don't work out.

Did you look at 2qzq's peak bag? That may work for you.

I like the idea, just looking for something easier to use. Maybe a larger mesh bag with a shock cord opening on top. Possibly pussick to the RL.

You could look at ridgeline organizers as well. And you could always go the DIY route if you know what you want but can't find the right product.

I have a 11' DH on the way, and the shelf is the only thing I'm thinking I'll really miss about my WBBB too.

I'm pretty sure I've seen someone else do it here, but you could make a small mini hammock, attached to a couple of mini continuous loops prussiked to the ridge line. Keep it down so that it's hanging over your feet/legs. That way you can toss things in there if you need to. You could use whatever light weight nylon you want, since it's not really going to be supporting much weight.

The problem with anything put in a RLO is that when getting in and out you bounce the hammock. Things tend to fall out. Almost clocked myself with the cell phone. Keep in mind that the foot end is higher and everything settles by the head end. Prussicks may help in that.

Agreed, the shelf is fantastic and once you use it nothing can take its place. I just used my new ridge runner this weekend and now I don't think there is any way I can use a hammock without saddlebags.

My 2QZQ peak bag has shockcord for the draw string. It is very easy to get things in and out even onehanded. Last trip, I used it in the foot end as a place to keep my water filter (mine can't be frozen) warmer than the outside was.
I've used a ridgeline organizer when I'm not using my WBBB - don't make it too wide (distance from ridgeline to bottom) or it will whap you in the face and be annoying.
As I go along, there are fewer and fewer things in my WBBB shelf: eyeglasses, cellphone (midnight reading). I'm generally wearing all my clothes (except my rain gear) so there is not a lot of stuff to dispose of at night.

This looks like a great peak bag. I've actually cut out the pieces of a variation on this but have to get to the stitching.

I feel the same way. I put EVERYTHING in there. Since it's so big, I can even get away with larger items like a fleece jacket, pillow, all my clothing for the next day...
