The words cheap and down usually don't go together.

All the cottage manufacturers are going to be about in the same price range.

It depends on what 3 season means to you. If 3 season is 40*+ then you're in the $200-230 range. If 3 season is 20*+ then you're closer to $250.

It also depends on the quality of down you're looking for as well (how lightweight and compressible are you trying to go). You can probably find some good down sleeping bags that would be less expensive and could be used as a TQ but they're going to probably be lower fill power down so you're going to need more down to equal the same temperature rating which means bulkier and heavier.

You get what you pay for.

As Tendertoe replied...its all gonna depend on what fill power you are looking for...

We have Grey Duck Down that is a bit cheaper for your wallet and it is just as good as goose down...really it all comes down to budget for you and what you are willing to sacrifice. A sleeping bag certainly will do the trick but it is bulky and difficult to compress.

Feel free to check out our website and look at the prices for Duck Down and see if maybe this will fit your budget

There's a used Grand Trunk down blanket on GearTrade for $75. It's a 50/50 duck down/feather 380 fill, so it's pretty much bottom of the barrel as far as down blankets go. Never used one before. http://www.geartrade.com/item/379397...-blanket-combo

Are looking strictly to purchase or are you willing to diy? If you have access to a sewing machine you can diy for fairly cheap.

Thanks for your feedback Tendertoe - I was wondering the same thing and it seems like you just summarized it pretty well.

Wal-Mart Cocoon 250. A down, Ozark Trails bag that compresses down to the size of a softball. It regularly sells for about $75 but I hear that you can find them on sale for around $60 fairly often.
I have one and I use it all the time

The 28F rated 600fp 3 season has about 4 oz(20%) more down ( fill weight) than the 31F rated 800FP, which appears to give more loft/warmth than than the 33% boost you would expect by going from 600 to 800. Unless I am making a math error, that does not seem right. Makes me wonder if they accidentally reversed the temp rating specs? Good thing for someone to call or e-mail them about!
