Should the edges of a gathered end be shorter than the middle?

So... I wanted to try a longer hammock, and the fabric store had a 50% off sale.
So I bought 4 yards of 60" ripstop, rolled the edges, and put 3" channels on the ends, and hung.

The hammock feels.. weird. My comparision hammock is a hammock bliss no-see-um which is just shy of 10' and I think is pretty comfortable, and I built this one mostly so I could have a hammock without a net. This one works out to 12' cuz they gave me a little extra.

I sewed the ends square... I'm wondering if I was supposed to radius the ends to make the edges shorter? With the square ends.. the edges feel floppy. It feels like.. my head and feet don't get support when I'm diagonal.

Did I do something wrong, or is that what happens when you go longer?

While a few have curved the hammock ends, most use a square cut.

The stretch side mod (knotty mod) is a popular method to take up the edge slack.

I wonder if that radius end would help with ridge down the middle that I always seem to be fighting

With the three I've done with channels I've folded about 1.5 " at the channels. So I for each corner. Tightens up the edges good. When I go home I'll take a picture.

one of the reasons folks go to the w fold and lashed ends is to put in some end shaping. It changes the side slack and center ridge. ;-)
    YMMV

Should the edges of a gathered end be shorter than the middle?

An example of what I did to mine after the fact. Tightened the sides up nicely. Notice my novice messy stitching. I've gotten way better since this lol
