2014 Spring MAHHA Summary and Videos

A big thank you to all for coming. The weekend was great. We had Friday afternoon and later evening rain...but Saturday and Sunday was terrific! A gusty breeze kept any bugs at bay.

We didn't get an official count of hammocks in the Group Camping Area...but a good guess would be approx. 100+ hangers. There was at least one tent in the Group area.
There were 6+ sites in the Family Campground where 15+ people were hanging, tenting, and Pop-up and trailer camping. 3+ dogs joined in the fun!

There were some that came just for Saturday.

[o]TTeR printed out 153 name tags and handed out all but 26. There were a few that came who didn't sign up for name tags.

Tim counted 152 adults and children at the Pig Roast.

The Pig Roast was great...Thanks to Chad from CM Pig Out!

Thank you to all who brought food and supplies for the breakfast and dinner.

Thank you to all that contributed to the Raffle prizes. Pan will post on the money collected and disbursements.

The Pine Grove Furnace State Park management and staff were great...even with the size of our group!

The planned dates for next year's Spring MAHHA are April 24th-26th. We will confirm as soon as the reservations can be made.

Below the video is the group photo taken after the Raffle. This picture is missing some that had left before the picture was taken.

My cap-in-hand thanks to the Mid-Atlantic Hangers for another awesome Spring MAHHA, your hospitality and beautiful Pennsylvania landscape make the 7+ hour journey south all the more worthwhile. We're hoping to return in the fall but if that doesn't work out, we'll definitely be back on "SITE EH" for Spring MAHHA 2015!

I didn't take many stills but here's the Flickr Set

What wonderful videos, and the group shot looked fantastic...thank you so much to all for taking the time to do that for us.

Tim/Donna it looked like that [o]TTeR hammock chair did the trick, do I see a future holiday present being gotten????

I thoroughly enjoyed my first MAHHA. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this together. The breakfast and dinner were tasty and I did a my fair share of drooling over the raffle prizes. It was great to meet some fellow hangers. Friday night was my first time out with my Superfly in the rain and my side panel pull-outs let a few drips in, but they quickly dribbled down the side of the tarp and I stayed nice and dry. I guess the next time it gets set up there will be some seam sealing happening.

I decided to spend a bit of time on Saturday taking a hike. I saw on the park map a nice loop trail off of the AT southbound out of the park that led to a scenic overlook. Everything was going well until the last 1/2 mile of the Sunset Rocks Trail decided to climb straight up the side of the ridge. It was one of the steeper trails I've ever done. The rocks at the top were a great place to sit and have some lunch, but it really wasn't much of a view. Oh well, next year I'll have to try the overlook on the southern side of the park.
All those hours exploring the great outdoors made me more resilient and confident

Thanks to all that helped plan, brought stuff, and helped out.

We again had a great time. Pre hike and all through the weekend.

Great folks to hang out with. Hope to see everyone at the next gathering

Jane, aka NyQuil, and I had a GREAT time! Best of all was seeing friends and making new ones. I always learn a lot of new stuff at every hang, enjoy the camaraderie of the hammock lover community and just getting some memorable naps!

Special thanks to all the vendors that show up and contribute so much to the raffle and to the experience - it would not be the same without them; to all the passionate experts that eagerly share their knowledge of everything knots, hammocks, setups, cooking, designing, splicing, under/over quilts, tarps... lock picking (thanks Chelsea), and of course the event organizers and food contributors. It made for a great time!!

Among the many lessons learned this time out, I need stakes that are designed for different soil conditions and can withstand 50-60 mph wind gusts..

One suggestion I would make for next time would be to put a list of events and locations on the bulletin board by the parking lot, and maybe even a site map with vendor and event locations. I would be happy to help out with this at the fall hang.

All in all, we had a great time and look forward to the next one. I did grab some pics that I will post later tonight or tomorrow.
