Any JRB Poncho Tarp Reviews out there?

    Hey Guys,

I just made my first JRB order the other day, and was very back and forth about ordering the poncho tarp. I ultimately decided against it. I have been in the market for one for a while. I feel the Go-Lite is just a tad small overall, and hate how small the head opening is. The JRB seems to fix those issues making everything slightly bigger with a very marginal weight addition, but I just couldn't find any info from users out there.

Does anyone have one and care to share their thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

    love my GLPT! i don't find it small(but i'm a kid)
i used it set up as shelter to block wind on a hike, and it worked like a champ. i was gonna get a jrb one,but i found the golite for a steal. im sure they both will work great for you.

I am glad to see it is back on their site. It was gone for a while and I couldn't help but think "what else would I get if something happened to mine?" I have only used it as a poncho a few times, but I have rigged it up as a beak on one end of my tarp many times. I chose this poncho because it was a little larger than others and lighter than most I was looking at. The tarp/beak feature was just a great bonus.

Thanks for the input Ragnall. That is along the lines of what I am looking for.

As far as the GLPT, I have handled one and tried it on. At 6'3" 210lbs, it is a little on the small side. Wearing it is actually ok, but the head hole is tiny to get through, and as a shelter, it could use a few more inches in all directions IMO. Hence my looking for something comparable but bigger.

I had subscribed hoping this thread would get more action.

I'm up in the air about this choice as well. I need to replace my super heavy fishing poncho that I have been using. According to specs listed on both sites they are exactly the same size, with the JRB being heavier by a couple ounces. So the GoLite is a bit lighter and $10 cheaper. But that tiny head hole thing is sure to be a pain, I have a big round head.

I have no plans on using it as a tarp, but in the even I would need it, it makes perfect sense to have dual use gear.

I wish there were more vids of the JRB poncho in use. Or at least pics of the hood up on the site.

Well I feel a bit silly as my incorrect math had the JRB being a bit bigger. Oops.

No need to feel silly at all. This thread actually brought the JRB to my attention. Wish there was more reviews of it. I'm not too concerned with the weight difference. It would be nice to be able to try them on for myself before making a decision.

Here's a poncho very similar, but a little larger, with some reviews that may help. I suspect there is not a great difference in function or quality. Also available on 'Amazon'.
