    Whoopie Slings on tarp

Has anyone tried out whoopie slings on a tarp set up? Seams like it would be easy set up. Thoughts anyone?

never tried it but a problem i can see is after you tighten everything up it would be very difficult to release tension on the whoopies to take the tarp back down.

The problem with using a whoopie sling as a tarp ridgeline is primarily in getting it tight enough. You need something with like a miniature trucker's load binder to tension and release the line. I use mini-tree huggers with toggle hitches (marlin spike hitches) to attach my ridgeline and you can always release the tension by pulling the toggle out of the knot. I want the ridgeline to be bowstring tight, but I can't do it while the whoopie sling is attached. I'm going to try using a little s-hook so I can pre-adjust the whoopie and attach the s-hook to an endless loop on the toggle hitch. If this doesn't work, I'll see about making a little load binder that will snap over center and hold the tension.

Yeah, this was one of my first bright ideas; using whoopies as a tarp ridgeline. You basically need three hands to tighten or release the adjustable bury on the whoopies when it's under tension (I was using my teeth as the third hand). Still, I've heard of people using whoopies on the guylines. I just can't figure out how they are able to adjust without that third hand.

Zingit and Tarp Flyz are lighter, cheaper, and more functional. Could possibly work but I wouldn't recommend it when there are better alternatives.

I am trying this on my latest setup. I bought some zing it and made 4 whoopies for guylines. For the ridge line I use zing it with a fixed loop on the end and a figure 9 attached to the tarp. So far the whoopie guylines have been OK, but my MSR tensioner rings required half the line and were probably just as light. They were also just as easy. I will use this set up for a little while and see if I like it, but my preliminary opinion is "Eh". It just probably wasn't worth my effort of trying to splice the zing it

I use lash-it whoopie guy lines. They work pretty well but really aren't much faster than traditional guy line methods.
Splicing that line is pretty tricky compared to 7/64 amsteel.
I'd quote a certain book, but that is not allowed.

Definitely not as easy as amsteel but surprisingly isn't that hard to do. I've worked with it quite a bit now on Zingit and Lashit 1.75mm and it's fairly easy for me.

    matty,
I use a ucr/whoopie guy line. On the tarp side is where the loop is. What would normally be the loose end of a whoopie becomes the long part attached to the tent stake. On the stake end use a clove hitch or pile hitch. Very fast to setup. Adjustments are very quick too. No third hand needed. I always thought a lot of people used this but I might be mistaken.

I've found line loc 3's to be the fastest, easiest way to adjust ridgeline and guy lines.
