I take my Basset with me all the time she curls up under the hammock, and she has her own bag that i made for her out of a old bag i had retired. Other then getting cold easily she has no problems being out. I Usually just use some rope and secure her up to one of the trees I hang on. Depending on where you are i'd recommend not using to long of a rope, as they like to get tangled up with other wild life and you want to keep that to a minimum. Just remember to keep your dog well hydrated, and make sure you keep the ticks off of them as you would yourself.

Thank you for all the advice. I have already started to make him his own hammock, I and lining it with fleece where he will lie to protect the ripstop form his toe nails and have made a leash out of amsteel that will be tied into the whoopie sling on one end so if he does want to get up at night he won't wonder off (since at home on the weekends he likes to wake up at 5 am). I'll make sure to post some pics when I have everything done.

My dog used to stay out in vestibule of tent. Now she lays w/in confines of tarp on random ground cover. I once slept with dogs when camping, or after field parties (in the days of my misspent youth). Too many parasites for my tastes. I learned my lessons.

That's a great set up you've created. I like the fleece liner for warmth and puncture resistance.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

If you’ve had your retriever for quite sometime, I’m sure he’d simply stay under or around your hammock for the night. If you’re not too sure then just tie him by the tree with a long leash, so he can move around.

That looks great... I'll have to make one for my dog... Just gotta figure out how to stop her from digging at the fleece... She tends to dig at her beds.

All three of my dogs sleep on a foam pad under the hammock. I have insulated vests that they wear in cold weather. I do keep them leashed to my hammock suspension so that I will know if the should try to wonder off but they never have. After hiking all day they are content to curl up on their pads and sleep the night away.
