    Another PLUQ thread

I posted this on Derek's blog, but since a lot of people here have experience with PLUQ's, I thought I'd ask here as well. I'm going for the no-sew PLUQ (since I have been denied sewing machine access )

    1) One version goes with a gatefold, instead of a normal fold. Has anyone tried that? And if so, do you run the end shockcord all the way around the end or just one side like in the drawing.

    2) I couldn’t find any 3/32″ shock cord, so I ended up buying all 1/8″. I was wondering if there was a reason for the smaller diameter — will the 1/8″ not fit? Or is it just a weight issue?

My old sleeping bag UQ; was a gate fold design..it's workable; though the ends should still be cinched in order to keep it on the hammock. I cinched all the corners and hung it from two sewn loops where the gate folds are..

Interesting. I was wondering how to hang it - I was afraid just running it through the fold wouldn't be secure, but I guess I'll have to try and see.

Dumb Question: I guess if I do the gate fold, the open end is under my butt instead of the bottom layer?

So like it is on the bottom picture or top one?

1/8" should work fine. I guess I have mine with a regular fold. I guess I'm not seeing how the gate fold really gives you anything other than a headache in trying to figure out how to string it up. I would think that temp range would be high enough that the side gap wouldn't be a problem.
