(Video) Wilson Creek - Hunt Fish Falls loop

My daughter & I backpacked in the Wilson Creek Wild & Scenic (Pisgah N.F.) area this past weekend.
If you're not from the area, this is just northeast of Linville Gorge, and south of Grandfather Mountain.

My daughter gave the trip a big thumbs up.

We did lots of exploring the creek & swimming holes like a couple of 10 year-olds given free rein.
Timber Ridge left us windless more than expected. The elevation gain from the trail head to top wasn't bad, but the extra ups & downs along the way - whew!
And finding the trail at times became an adventure as we came to unmarked junctions that all looked well traveled.

Oh and we came across a snake - I think it's a copperhead. Can anybody verify it from the video?

I video'd the snake & some of the other shots with my GoPro mounted to a pole I took along, allowing me to get some different camera angles. (I had to assure my wife we weren't that close to the snake once she saw the footage).

    Enjoy.

    WOW Paul,

Another great trip report. You and Nat Bat sure know how to enjoy the outdoors. Was hoping to see you at the Smoked Butt hang, but I can see you have your priorities right. You are very blessed to have daughter who shares your love of the outdoors. I really liked the part with the pollywogs or tadpoles in Natalies hands.

I missed seeing all of you at the Smoked Butt hang. I'm glad MedicineMan captured it in a video so I could see my hammock friends.
But when Natalie said Dad I want to go backpacking, well, I can't pass that up.

Plus it was a great opportunity to see Wilson Creek on a weekend with a good weather forecast.
We were trying to recall the difference between pollywogs and tadpoles - maybe there isn't one?

I already have the map for this area and have it earmarked for a summer weekend trip!
Glad to see some of it up close like this.

I need to get my Tenkara gear setup and break in my hiking sandals.

Hey Paul, great video as usual. You and Nat are a perfect match enjoying the outdoors. How'd you like that water quality in there? Pretty great? As a matter of fact, Paddlemule and I just got back from there a few minutes ago. We started on the Parkway and came down the MST to Old House Gap but instead of going west on down to Gragg Prong we followed Andrews Creek down into Wilson. A lot of storm damage in there and a lot of bushwacking but still had a ball of fun. Timber Ridge had a lot of blow downs a few years back but it looked better for you guys. Maybe the camera didn't show it all. Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing it!

Another great trip report from the dynamic duo. That was a banded water snake you found.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

How about that SNAAAAAKEE! It attacked! They don't like cameras very much. Nifty map app. That fire needed some marshmallows. Very nice waterfalls and swimming pools. You're both crazy jumping into that water! I can feel how cold it is from here! lol Looked like a great hike, TallPaul, thanks for the video!
