I'm in Bali and there is no such thing as Silnylon here. There isn't any odourless mineral spirits. There are no bungees. Yet, I'm going to make a hammock with whatever I can get my hands on.
However, even the material sellers and importers have no idea what "Denier" means (and they are the experts!!!), so the material I've found, which may or may not be ripstop nylon, needs testing first.
So, exactly how does one test the breaking strain of fabric?
I guess I can take a strip of it and load it with kgs until it fails, right? But does the industry test a 'specific size/shape' of material, e.g. 1 x 1m?
Anyone know?
