    Wilderness Toilet Kit

    Good afternoon,

I've been backpacking for about 25-years. This August will be my first Hammock trip, I purchased the Clark Jungle Hammock NX-250...can't wait to try it out. On another topic, I'm taking my youngest son backpacking for the first time and would like to make it easy on him. I was watching YouTube and came across the Wilderness Toilet Kit (www.woldernesstoilet.com), tried to order one but the guy has been out of stock for over a year? He is still promoting the product buy not selling it.

Does anyone know how I can get my hands on one? It would be perfect for backpacking, comes in around 16oz and 8.5 x 11 in size, great for putting in your backpack.

    I would really appreciate it.

    Fixed that for you.

Pretty wordy site. I still don't have the slightest idea what it really is or looks like. Got too far into the text to bother with watching the video. Very important issue. Extremely confident of their product. I can see something like this in high demand. Too high not to have product to ship.

I wish I could help you, but I have never done anything besides the ol' sitting against a tree and using a baby wipe. Yow young is your youngest?

It looks to have been made with corrugated plastic sign material. This could be easily duplicated with a couple signs from a recent failed political campaign. One small to make the seat and one a little larger, say 24 x 48, to bend/score at the proper intervals to make it fold up. Looks to be nothing more complicated than that.

Must admit, the thought of using some politician's signage for a pooper is a glorious bit of irony.

I have one pretty close to yours. If was just my older son going, it wouldn't be a big deal. Trying to make this as much fun as possible for the youngest one.

I've been looking around for kayaking toilet options. I also stumbled across the wilderness toilet. It appears to be an interesting design, but not available. Making one seems fairly straight forward, as long as it's sturdy enough. Some lakes (Lake Powell) and most rivers require some sort of toilet system. On the Grand Canyon, the self support kayakers have come up with one made from 8 inch diameter pvc pipe. 16 inch pipe, with a cap on one end, and a screw cap on the other. They use wag bags in it. Each kayaker carries their own. Meets the Grand Canyon requirements. Tall enough and with a big enough "target area" to be a serviceable toilet. I've also seen something called a Biffy Bag. A single use, wag bag system. Sort of a combination of the tree squat/cat hole and wag bag. If anyone fabricates a candidate sign wilderness toilet, please post pictures and a review.

It's funny, but I don't see why you would do that (and carry the weight for it) when you can use that exact same tree to lean against in the same position...
