How high above the hammock should I hang my tarp?

I'm expecting a new tarp in the mail soon. Switching from a Kelty Noah to a Warbonnet Mamajamba.

How high above the hammock ridge line should I hang this tarp? Is it dependent on the weather?

I'd imagine that temperature would dictate height; on hotter nights it should be higher above me and staked out further, and colder nights lower and closer. Rainy nights should be the same as cold nights, I guess. What about rainy and hot?

yes, but more dependent on the wind than the temp usually

the closer you pitch your tarp the less airflow and wind you will experience the wind will rob heat, you may experience more condensation on the underside of the tarp when it's pitched really low though from the water your body and breath give off, as far as rain if it's not windblown then the height doesn't matter quite as much

I generally try to pitch it as high as possible, in order to be able to stand under it. If it's really windy, I'd take heed, but otherwise it works fine like that.

Depending on how large your tarp is. Wind and rain are the enemy, but you may want to be able to stand up or close to it. I find having one side of the tarp low and the other end higher works the bestImageUploadedByTapatalk1399533822.733812.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1399533835.214482.jpg

It depends on the amount of protection you need/want. With lots of rain it makes sense to hang the tarp close to the hammock. With lots of rain and/or wind, hang it even lower, to prevent rain from being blown under the tarp. If the weather is nice, and you don't think there will be rain during the night, you can hang it high for the views and the airflow.

By the way, you can hang the tarp high enough to be able to stand under it, but still have it close to the hammock. Just hang the hammock higher.

You pretty much nailed it in your original post, except the part about rainy & hot. I handle hot by staying home

My tarp touches the suspension on the hammock. When I get in the hammy my weight pulls it down and clears the tarp but not by much. For good weather/bad weather I adjust how steep it is staked out to get more or less protection as needed.
I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.
